ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

A good friend of mine (Chris at Modry Design Studio) recently posted a link to this in the wonderful world of Facebook. Halfway through I knew it was blog-worthy! For all of you involved in the everyday headache that is Internet Explorer and having to design and / or develop around it, I bring forth, THE BEST WEBSITE FOOTER EVER. (courtesy of www.newtoyork.com )

Hi, if you are coming to this site via Internet Explorer 6, you might not be getting the best experience possible. Honestly, I can’t even begin to think about what your entire experience on the internet must be like? (…probably like riding a bike on the highway while cars blow by you on their way to Costco to get gallons of mayonnaise and 60-inch plasma TV’s). How will you ever be able to use this website?????? You wont. You’re an asshole and your browser is an asshole. So look, I’m going to be honest: I kind of hate you. BUT we c-a-n make this work. Here is what I am going to need you to do: fire up your Toshiba ShitBook© that weighs about 45 pounds, wipe the Cheeto dust off the screen, download Safari ( http://www.apple.com/safari/download/ ), delete Internet Explorer from your computer, punch yourself in the face, and get me a pulled pork sandwich.

To go along with other posts ( here and here ) in which I have intermingled my wonderful kids and branding, this one is quite funny and heavily agreed by me. My 22-month old daughter recently saw a Sprite logo on a printed piece that my wife was holding. She looked it over, as well as the other 4 or 6 logos on the same piece, pointed to the Sprite logo and said “That’s broken!”. After my initial “My daughter never ceases to amaze me with awesomeness”, my wife showed me the logo she was referring to and indeed, it IS broken. In many many ways..
